Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
1. Overview
The Virtue Initiative is a non-profit pornography accountability application. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, how it is protected, and your rights regarding that data. We do not sell, advertise with, or monetize your personal data.
2. Data we collect
We collect the data needed to provide the service:
- Account information - your email address and an optional display name, provided at sign-up.
- Encrypted screenshot data - screenshots and other encrypted monitoring batches captured by The Virtue Initiative clients installed on your devices. These batches may include screenshots and related encrypted event data.
- Device metadata - the name, platform, and activity timestamps of each device you register.
- Device and monitoring logs - unencrypted log messages sent by clients to report operational and accountability events, such as capture failures, monitoring state changes, startup/shutdown or session events, and similar client-reported status information.
- Partner relationships - the email addresses of accountability partners you invite, and the permissions you grant them.
- Encryption and sharing records - encrypted key material and related records needed to restore your encrypted data and share access with authorized accountability partners.
- Authentication and session data - access tokens, refresh tokens, registered device tokens, and similar session data needed to keep you signed in and connect devices to your account.
- Local device/browser storage - clients may store local credentials, encryption keys, or configuration values on your device or in your browser so the service can continue operating after restart.
3. How we use your data
We use your data to provide and secure The Virtue Initiative service:
- Clients may capture screenshots, monitor device or system state, and send logs or encrypted batches to our servers as part of the accountability service.
- Encrypted screenshot data is stored and later delivered so you and the accountability partners you explicitly authorize can view it with the appropriate decryption keys.
- Unencrypted device and monitoring logs are used to show activity and operational status to authorized users and partners.
- Account, device, partner, and session data is used to authenticate you, operate registered clients, and manage sharing permissions.
- We do not use your screenshots or logs for advertising, profiling, or model training.
4. Data retention
We do not currently offer self-service retention controls or promise automatic deletion after a fixed number of days. Data is retained while needed to operate the service unless and until it is deleted by us as part of maintenance or in response to a deletion request. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at help@virtueinitiative.org.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share your data only as needed to operate the service, including with accountability partners you explicitly authorize and with infrastructure providers that host or deliver service data. We use Cloudflare infrastructure, including Workers, D1, and R2 object storage, and Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs their handling of infrastructure-level data.
6. Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Encrypted screenshot batches are encrypted client-side before upload. Those encrypted blobs may be retrievable from storage if their URLs are known, but they are intended to be unreadable without the relevant encryption keys. Device and monitoring logs, account records, partner records, and other service metadata are stored server-side and are intended to be accessible only through authorized account access. Passwords are hashed and are not stored in plaintext.
7. Children
The Virtue Initiative is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
8. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at help@virtueinitiative.org. We will make reasonable efforts to respond within 30 days.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
