1. Acceptance

By creating an account or installing the The Virtue Initiative client, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Description of service

The Virtue Initiative is a free, non-profit pornography accountability tool. Its client applications may capture screenshots, monitor device or system state, and send logs or encrypted monitoring data to the service so that information can be made available to you and the accountability partners you designate. The Virtue Initiative is operated as a non-profit project, provided free of charge, and may change as the software continues to develop.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use The Virtue Initiative. By using the service you represent that you meet this requirement.

4. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at help@virtueinitiative.org if you suspect unauthorized access.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable United States law.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data.
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service.
• Use the service to capture or share screenshots of individuals without complying with applicable law or, where required, without their knowledge or consent.
• Use the service in a way that violates platform rules, workplace policies, school policies, or other obligations that apply to you.

6. Accountability partners

When you invite an accountability partner, you grant them access to your monitoring data and logs according to the permissions you configure and the sharing state of your account. You are responsible for choosing your partners, understanding what access you are granting, and managing that access appropriately.

7. Data and privacy

Your use of The Virtue Initiative is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

8. Open source

The Virtue Initiative software is intended to remain open source and self-hostable. Use, copying, modification, and distribution of the source code are governed by the license terms that apply to the repository and its components. These Terms govern use of the hosted service operated by us.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Virtue Initiative is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will not be lost. Use the service at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Virtue Initiative shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the service.

11. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. If you want your hosted account and associated data deleted, you may request deletion by contacting us. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with applicable United States federal or state law.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
